Rubber-soil mixtures: use of grading entropy theory to evaluate stiffness and liquefaction susceptibility

چکیده

Abstract Rubber-soil mixtures are known to have mechanical properties that enable their use in backfills, road construction or geotechnical seismic isolation systems. The complexity of these comes from adding soft (i.e. rubber) particles increases the number particle consider when studying macroscopic behaviour. distinction between sand-like and rubber-like behaviour is normally presented relation rubber content size ratio particles. It however unknown how change on mixture gradation affects RSm. Entropy coordinates condense entire distribution (PSD) a single point Cartesian plane, accounting for all information gradation. Grading entropy been used study typical behaviours mostly incompressible sand) soils. In this study, analyse correlation small-strain stiffness liquefaction susceptibility RSm PSDs. results suggest can be effectively as an alternative means assessment soil behaviours, being also able distinguish behaviours. Based 30 PSDs analysed, it evidenced internal stability criterion proposed by Lőrincz (1986) predict normalised base (A) has shown increase with content, which linked lower susceptibility, due supporting effect strong-force chains formed sand

Numerical simulation of liquefaction susceptibility of soil interacting by single pile

Previous case histories have shown that soil liquefaction severely damaged many structures supported on pile foundations during earthquakes. As a result, evaluating the potential for instability is an important consideration for the safe and resistant design of deep foundation against earthquakes. In this study, the liquefaction susceptibility of saturated sand interacting by single concrete pi...

Sand – rubber mixtures ( large rubber chips )

Mixtures of small rigid sand particles Ds and large soft rubber particles Dr are prepared at different volume fractions and tested to investigate their small-strain and zero-lateral strain responses (Dr /Ds & 10). Both data sets are simultaneously gathered in an oedometer cell instrumented with bender elements. Data are analyzed in the context of mixture theory and with the aid of numerical sim...

Liquefaction of Heterogeneous Soil: Centrifuge Study

A series of centrifuge liquefaction tests have been conducted at C-CORE’s geotechnical centrifuge facility: two on variable soil and one on uniform soil deposits. A single storied frame structure resting on two strip footings was also placed on that soil deposit. Experimental results such as accelerations, excess pore water pressures (EPWP) and settlements were monitored throughout the tests. R...

Decision Tree Approach for Soil Liquefaction Assessment

In the current study, the performances of some decision tree (DT) techniques are evaluated for postearthquake soil liquefaction assessment. A database containing 620 records of seismic parameters and soil properties is used in this study. Three decision tree techniques are used here in two different ways, considering statistical and engineering points of view, to develop decision rules. The DT ...
